Entry for January 6, 2009

Three years ago our association voted to establish a committee to explore the possibility of beginning a scholarship to be used for college students from our churches.  The Moderator appointed the committee but the committee never met.

Last night a new committee met and discussed the possibility of beginning such a scholarship.  They will have a recommendation ready for our annual meeting on March 1.  We have three options.  Option 1 is the one they recommend which is to begin a Wolf Bayou Endowment through the Cleburne County Community Foundation, an affiliate of the Arkansas Community Foundation.  The funds deposited into this endowment would be invested by ARCF and the earnings each year would be given to the association to use as a scholarship.  An endowment of $10,000 would produce $500 to be used as a scholarship every year.

Option 2 would be to raise funds every year and however much is raised would be the amount available to give out as scholarships.  Option 3 would be to not have a scholarship at all.

What do you think?

Brothers, have you explored the Dave Ramsey suggestions about the theme? not scholarships at all but how to invest the money with some end? There are several possibilities, according his books, of investments, and in one or two years we can think to offer first complementary scholarships to College students and in a few years, three or perhaps five years, to offer full covering scholarships for College students of our churches with good standing and good average and some kind of compromise after they finish, well this part can be managed during the time is started to give the first scholarship. We can raise money from our churches, every year with that end, to increase the invested fund with the end to help more of our students. If every year we promote the scholarship fund among our churches, we can say the first 5 years, and after every two years, and so on, until the fund be self-sufficient, we can have with the time a great fund to help whoever need it. Think on it, and I recommend you read Dave Ramsey's books. I have them but in Spanish, (one is an audio book) and if you can read it I can borrow you them.
I think this committee is a great great idea we do not miss it. Do not disregard what God can do. Love you all.
